NEW to You USED HOT TUB Start-up Recommendations.
Congratulations on you hot tub and choosing to bathe chemical free! We want to give you some tips on buying a new-to-you used tub and getting it up and running.
GATHER THE FACTS: Get the brand and model # and look up the specs online, download the manual if possible. It’s important to know if you have an ozonator or not, what size (in gallons) it is and what filter system you have? These facts could impact your maintenance
program. Find out things like:
why the owners are selling it?
How long has it been sitting unused?
What have they replaced or repaired over the years?
How much it costs to run per month?
Have they ever had any water quality issues and what were they?
This information will tell you how much money you might need to put into the tub to get it up and running to give you the experience you are hoping for. It allows you problem solve and make choices about treatments, improvements or repairs.
Common used tub expenses:
• Replace chip or install an ozonator • Replace the heating element • Add insulation (in cold climates) • Replace cover- highly recommended. Old covers
are contaminated with off-gasing chemicals and things such as mold, algae and often have
degrading insulation) • Must replace filters!
Water quality steps:
this might seem a bit over kill but it will give you the best start possible.
You can start this process as soon as your tub is installed.
We recommend filling your tub with water, heating to 95°, add 3-4 qts. 3% peroxide, run jets on high / air on with lid up for 3-5 hrs, let sit for 24 hours.
Do a chlorine or bleach shock-1/2 c per 100 gallons, run jets on high with lid up for 3-5 hrs, let sit for 2-3 days until chlorine levels are on the lowest reading on your test strip. You are ready to purge using this water.
Begin Spa purge or Super Purge. Run jets on and off for 20 minutes. Let purge sit for 1 to 5 days. Drain the water, clean the shell, cover and filter compartment with 3% peroxide. ( 1-3 days for new tubs 3-5 for used)
Drain the water, clean the shell, cover and filter compartment with 3% peroxide.
Refill your spa and heat to 101-104°. Let the water continue to drain out for 10minuets to ‘flush’ out any contaminated water. Install new filter(s).
AHHH!!! Install ahhNatural as directed. Soak up the bliss!
We love used tubs! reuse. recycle. rejoice. Have patience and enjoy!
NOTE: Some customers have bought used tubs and inherited tough chronic water problems
(white water mold, tissue algae). This usually happens with new (1-4 yrs. old) used tubs that
are sold very cheap. This will become evident in the first 2-4 months and may remain a
problem on an ongoing basis and or require using toxic chemical treatments and sanitizer.
